For the 8th call, within the Mission “Strengthening an Innovative Sustainable Economy”, a project addressing the topic “Reducing air pollution in the construction sector” could deliver solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions (CO2) in the construction sector?

The reduction of pollution in the construction intends to tackle air pollutants affecting ambient air quality, such as PM₂.₅, PM₁₀, NO₂/NOx, SO₂, ozone, benzene, CO and certain metals/PAHs in order to contribute to the EU Action Plan: ‘Towards Zero Pollution for Air, Water and Soil’ The EU Ambient Air Quality Directive sets standards for these pollutants and does not include CO₂ among them. In addition, Eurostat separates greenhouse gases, including CO₂, from air pollutants.
In the framework of this Call, project are expected to explicitly and directly contribute to reducing air pollutants in this sector, rather than CO₂ reduction which primally aim at decarbonation and climate change mitigation.
