Preparing the 2028-2034 Programme
The Interreg Euro-MED Programme prepares for the shift between its 2021–2027 and 2028–2034 periods, by considering its future organisation, governance and architecture in advance. That is why the Programme sets up a task force composed of members appointed by the country partners belonging to the current Interreg Euro-MED Programme.
From 2026 onwards, this task force reflects on the next steps and the Programme’s future contribution to cooperation in the Mediterranean, ensuring it is ready when the final regulations are published.
Task Force Actions and Work Plan
11 February 2026:
- First meeting of the task force.
- Approval of internal regulations, schedule and priorities.
21 April 2026:
- Designation of the 2028-34 Managing Authority (reappointment of Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur).
- EU/DG REGIO: Follow-up of regulations/negotiations.
- Discussions on the geographical perimeter of the Programme.
30 June – 1 July 2026:
- EU/DG REGIO: Follow-up of regulations/negotiations.
- Decision on the geographical perimeter.
September 2026:
- EU/DG REGIO: Follow-up of regulations/negotiations, orientation paper.
- Discussions on the strategy and thematic priorities of the Programme.
November 2026:
- EU/DG REGIO: Follow-up of regulations/negotiations.
- Decision on general thematic priorities.
EU Reference documents
The task force takes into account the latest information on the 2028-2034 budget for the European Union, as well as strategic frameworks for cooperation in the Mediterranean.
- The Multiannual financial framework (MFF) is the proposed 2028-2034 budget for the European Union, drawn up by the European Commission and presented in July 2025. It includes details of the proposed budget to be allocated to future Interreg ‘Chapters’ within the single Interreg Plan, as well as orientations for their future implementation.
- Other major draft regulations issued by the European Commission in July 2025, concerning the projected National and Regional partnerships plans, European Fund for Regional Development and Cohesion Fund (including Interreg) regulations, performance framework and Global Europe Instrument.
- The Pact for the Mediterranean sets out guidelines for cooperation between European Union countries and their partners on the southern shore of the Mediterranean. Its action plan will be presented in 2026.
