Krujë is one of Albania’s most significant cultural heritage destinations, renowned for its Castle, Old Bazaar and Skanderbeg Museum. However, tourism remains concentrated in the historic centre and peak seasons, creating pressure on heritage assets while limiting benefits for surrounding rural communities. The Municipality of Krujë is interested in developing and testing an integrated Sustainable Heritage Destination Management model, combining digital innovation, green mobility, community-based tourism and improved visitor management.

Through transnational cooperation, Krujë aims to pilot solutions such as smart heritage interpretation, visitor flow monitoring, thematic cultural and nature routes, promotion of local artisans and rural experiences, and climate-resilient tourism measures. The municipality seeks partners working on smart tourism, heritage management, sustainable destination governance and community engagement to jointly develop a transferable “Living Heritage Destination” model, where cultural heritage, local communities and sustainable tourism contribute to more resilient and inclusive Mediterranean destinations.

The Firefighting Association of Karlovac County (VZKŽ) is a county-level non-profit organisation coordinating 90 volunteer fire brigades, two public fire brigades, around 7,300 members, 1,200 operational firefighters and approximately 230 vehicles. It supports training, emergency preparedness and cooperation with civil protection authorities, local governments and other emergency services.

Within the Call, VZKŽ could contribute to the transfer, adaptation and local uptake of proven solutions for safer, climate-resilient and sustainable tourism destinations. Possible contributions may include, but are not limited to, visitor and route safety, wildfire prevention, community engagement and the development of a distinctive firefighting-heritage tourism niche.

VZKŽ holds historical documents, photographs and firefighting equipment that could support exhibitions, museum collections, educational programmes, digital storytelling and thematic visitor experiences. Firefighting traditions, local stories, traditional festivals, competitions and locally branded products could also be integrated into sustainable rural and cultural tourism offers.

VZKŽ is primarily interested in participating as a Project Partner, while remaining open to involvement as an Associated Organisation if more appropriate. Should our profile correspond to the needs of the emerging partnership, we would be glad to provide additional information and discuss our potential contribution.

GAL La Cittadella del Sapere is interested in joining partnerships and project proposals within the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism (MMM) Coordinated Call 7 on Sustainable Tourism and is available to participate as a project partner.

The LAG works in close cooperation with local authorities, businesses, communities and other territorial stakeholders to support rural development, sustainable tourism, local entrepreneurship and the enhancement of the natural, cultural and religious heritage of Basilicata.

Our main areas of expertise and strengths include:
– In-depth knowledge of rural and inland territories and their development needs and opportunities;
– Experience in facilitating cooperation among public authorities, private stakeholders and local communities;
– Capacity to enhance rural, cultural, natural and religious heritage as strategic assets for sustainable territorial development;
– Strong relationships with municipalities, local communities and businesses, supporting the effective implementation and dissemination of project activities and results.

We are particularly interested in project topics related to:
– Religious and spiritual tourism, including the development and enhancement of pilgrimage routes and religious and cultural heritage;

Dear Angela, SKRIPTA can provide strong territorial coverage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with networks and project experience extending across the wider Western Balkans, enabling an observatory to connect regional analysis with evidence from municipalities, public institutions, tourism actors, CSOs and communities.

We can contribute particularly to the research and governance dimensions of a Sustainable Tourism Observatory: mapping tourism ecosystems and stakeholders; designing research frameworks and indicators; collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative evidence; monitoring social, environmental and governance impacts; and translating findings into practical recommendations for local and regional decision-makers.

Our work with municipalities and public institutions provides direct access to local-level data, policy processes and stakeholders, while our experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning can support the development of robust systems for tracking trends, outcomes and policy responses over time. We also bring expertise in gender equality, social inclusion and climate adaptation, including work on river basins and intermunicipal cooperation, which can help ensure that sustainability is assessed beyond visitor numbers and economic performance.

Through SKRIPTA IdeaLab in Sarajevo, we can complement observatory research with stakeholder dialogues, focus groups, co-design sessions and participatory interpretation of findings. This creates a bridge between data and action: bringing local governments, tourism providers, communities, CSOs and experts together to validate evidence, identify emerging challenges and co-create responses.

SKRIPTA can therefore support both the analytical backbone of the observatory and its connection to the institutions and communities that need to use its findings.
