The Public Institution Agency for the Management of the Stari Grad Plain is dedicated to the preservation, sustainable development, and tourism valorisation of the Stari Grad Plain (ancient Pharos Hora or Roman Ager) on the Island of Hvar. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008, this unique cultural landscape represents the best-preserved ancient Greek land division (cadastre) in the Mediterranean, boasting 24 centuries of continuous agricultural tradition.

Project Idea & Consortium Call:

We are seeking partners to form a consortium for a capitalisation project aligned with the Euro-MED / MED-ROUTES framework, themed “The Hellenistic Sentinel Trail”. The initiative aims to connect and promote Hellenistic towers dating from the 4th to the 1st century BC across the region..

The Firefighting Association of Karlovac County (VZKŽ) is a county-level non-profit organisation coordinating 90 volunteer fire brigades, two public fire brigades, around 7,300 members, 1,200 operational firefighters and approximately 230 vehicles. It supports training, emergency preparedness and cooperation with civil protection authorities, local governments and other emergency services.

Within the Call, VZKŽ could contribute to the transfer, adaptation and local uptake of proven solutions for safer, climate-resilient and sustainable tourism destinations. Possible contributions may include, but are not limited to, visitor and route safety, wildfire prevention, community engagement and the development of a distinctive firefighting-heritage tourism niche.

VZKŽ holds historical documents, photographs and firefighting equipment that could support exhibitions, museum collections, educational programmes, digital storytelling and thematic visitor experiences. Firefighting traditions, local stories, traditional festivals, competitions and locally branded products could also be integrated into sustainable rural and cultural tourism offers.

VZKŽ is primarily interested in participating as a Project Partner, while remaining open to involvement as an Associated Organisation if more appropriate. Should our profile correspond to the needs of the emerging partnership, we would be glad to provide additional information and discuss our potential contribution.

I am writing on behalf of the Center for Development of the Pelagonija Planning Region (CDPPR), from Bitola, Macedonia, to express our interest in establishing cooperation with organisations looking for reliable and experienced partners for Interreg Euro-MED projects, particularly within the field of sustainable tourism and related areas of regional development.

CDPPR is a public institution for regional development, established by the nine units of local self-government comprising the Pelagonija Planning Region. As a regional development institution, we work closely with municipalities, public institutions, local stakeholders, businesses and civil society organisations to identify and address regional development needs and translate them into concrete projects and actions.

Our responsibilities include preparation and implementation of development projects, coordination of regional development activities, support to local communities, promotion of tourism and cultural heritage, and activities related to civil protection, resilience and sustainable territorial development.

CDPPR has substantial experience in project development, partnership building and project implementation under various national and international funding instruments. While Euro-MED would be a new programme framework for our institution, we have practical experience with Interreg cross-border cooperation, including project preparation, partnership coordination, financial and administrative management, implementation of activities, communication and reporting.

Our experience also includes projects and initiatives related to sustainable and rural tourism, cultural and natural heritage, local economic development, environmental protection, climate resilience and capacity building of local stakeholders. Through our institutional position, we can also facilitate access to the municipalities and relevant stakeholders across the Pelagonija region and support the testing, adaptation and territorial transfer of innovative solutions and good practices.

For the upcoming Interreg Euro-MED opportunities, including the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism (MMM) and Sustainable Tourism, we are particularly interested in joining partnerships where our regional expertise, territorial network and capacity to implement pilot actions can provide concrete added value.

My name is Gabriela Popova, and I represent BATTI Association.
BATTI is an NGO based in Varna, Bulgaria. Our region is eligible for the Interreg Euro-MED calls, and we have experience in two projects under this programme: GARDEN and Med-Routes. Med-Routes focused specifically on sustainable tourism, allowing us to gain strong expertise in this field.
We also work on other tourism-related projects under the Interreg Danube Programme, such as Roman Legacy. Currently are partners in 9 Interreg projects in total under the different Programme Regions.
As an NGO, according to the programme rules, we cannot act as the lead partner. We would like to join as partners in future consortia. Thanks to our extensive experience, we would be pleased to support you in the preparation of the project proposal.

Alongside our core work, we have experience developing historical building recreations from different periods for VR and PC platforms, which we believe could add real value to the digital promotion and virtual visualisation of the Hellenistic towers included in your project.

My name is Giacomo Andreani, CEO of Expirit S.r.l. SB, an Italian SME based in the Marche Region and specialising in sustainable tourism, destination management, territorial governance and tourism product and experience design.

We read your partner call for the proposed Hellenistic Sentinel Trail and see a strong connection between the concept and Expirit’s expertise in cultural heritage enhancement, route development, storytelling and the transformation of heritage assets into integrated visitor experiences.

Expirit works with municipalities, destinations, tourism operators and local communities across Italy. We could contribute to the proposal as a technical Project Partner through a dedicated package of activities covering:

-tourism product and experience design;
-visitor journey and heritage interpretation;
-integration of the trail with the wider destination offer;
-stakeholder and tourism-operator engagement;
-capacity building and co-design activities;
-development of replicable tourism formats;
-market uptake and connection with incoming operators.

We could also assess the involvement of suitable Italian pilot destinations and heritage sites through our national network.

As a private SME, Expirit cannot act as Lead Partner, but we would be interested in joining the consortium as a Project Partner with a clearly defined technical and implementation role.

We are very interested in your project concept “The Hellenistic Sentinel Trail” and in the possibility of joining the consortium as a partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje is a public cultural institution internationally oriented and strategically committed to the contemporary valorisation of cultural heritage and its integration into sustainable tourism and destination development. The Museum is currently implementing two EU-funded projects in the field of cultural tourism, with activities related to heritage interpretation, visitor experience and management, accessibility, digitalisation, community engagement and sustainable valorisation of cultural and archaeological sites.
We see particularly strong potential for cooperation in the fields of cultural and archaeological heritage, thematic routes, innovative interpretation, visitor management, sustainable tourism development, digital solutions and the transfer of good practices to lesser-known heritage sites and hinterland destinations.
We would therefore be very interested in learning more about the current development of the consortium and exploring a possible role for the Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje within the project.

The “Hellenistic Sentinel Trail” is a particularly interesting initiative, and we would be very pleased to explore the possibility of ACSD joining the consortium as a partner from Albania.

The connection of Hellenistic towers and cultural heritage sites across the Mediterranean, combined with their sustainable tourism and territorial valorisation, strongly aligns with ACSD’s areas of expertise in sustainable development, cultural and natural heritage, environmental protection, research, community engagement, tourism development and capacity building.

From the Albanian side, we believe ACSD could contribute particularly through territorial research and mapping, stakeholder and community engagement, identification and involvement of relevant Albanian heritage sites and institutions, awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, sustainable tourism approaches, communication and dissemination, as well as pilot or demonstration activities where relevant.

We would be very interested to learn more about the project concept, the specific Euro-MED/MED-ROUTES call, the current consortium structure and the role envisaged for partners.
