The Municipality of Vasilevo is a small rural municipality located in the South-East Region of North Macedonia, characterised by a predominantly rural landscape, agricultural activities . Despite its relatively small size, the Municipality has gained valuable experience in the preparation and implementation of EU-funded projects, particularly through participation in INTERREG cross-border cooperation programmes. Vasilevo is interested in further strengthening its involvement in transnational cooperation and in exchanging and testing innovative solutions with municipalities, research institutions and other organisations across the Euro-MED area.
For Interreg Euro-MED Call 8, the Municipality of Vasilevo is seeking to join an existing consortium as a pilot municipality under the Green Living Areas Mission. We can offer a mature and concrete pilot site at the “Goce Delchev” Primary School in Vasilevo, where the Municipality already has an existing technical design and Bill of Quantities for the comprehensive redevelopment of the schoolyard.
The proposed pilot could build upon the existing design and transform the schoolyard into a climate-resilient, water-smart and biodiversity-friendly green public space, integrating nature-based solutions, increased vegetation and natural shading, drought-resistant planting, efficient irrigation and rainwater management, permeable surfaces, outdoor learning areas and climate monitoring.
The existing technical documentation already foresees approximately 3,180 m² of green areas, as well as a separately designed irrigation system, providing a strong basis for adapting the investment to the objectives of Call 8.
Vasilevo would be pleased to contribute as a pilot territory, bringing the perspective and practical needs of small rural municipalities into a wider Mediterranean partnership and testing solutions that could subsequently be replicated in other rural communities across the Euro-MED area.
