Krujë is one of Albania’s most significant cultural heritage destinations, renowned for its Castle, Old Bazaar and Skanderbeg Museum. However, tourism remains concentrated in the historic centre and peak seasons, creating pressure on heritage assets while limiting benefits for surrounding rural communities. The Municipality of Krujë is interested in developing and testing an integrated Sustainable Heritage Destination Management model, combining digital innovation, green mobility, community-based tourism and improved visitor management.

Through transnational cooperation, Krujë aims to pilot solutions such as smart heritage interpretation, visitor flow monitoring, thematic cultural and nature routes, promotion of local artisans and rural experiences, and climate-resilient tourism measures. The municipality seeks partners working on smart tourism, heritage management, sustainable destination governance and community engagement to jointly develop a transferable “Living Heritage Destination” model, where cultural heritage, local communities and sustainable tourism contribute to more resilient and inclusive Mediterranean destinations.

The Municipality of Krujë is looking to cooperate with public authorities, universities, research centres, tourism and development agencies, business support organisations, SMEs, NGOs and specialised entities from eligible Mediterranean countries interested in building a strong, balanced and operational consortium. We are particularly interested in partners with expertise in smart tourism, sustainable heritage management, green mobility, digital solutions, community-based tourism, climate adaptation and destination governance, who are willing to co-develop and test innovative solutions for transforming historic towns into resilient and inclusive Living Heritage Destinations across the Euro-MED area.

Feel IQM is a Croatian SME specialized in integrated destination quality management through our IQM Destination model. We work with tourism boards, local authorities, destination organizations, and a broad network of tourism SMEs and local stakeholders across Croatia and Montenegro.

We believe our expertise could complement the Krujë concept, particularly in the areas of destination governance, stakeholder engagement, community-based tourism, tourism quality management, capacity building, and monitoring of visitor experience.

Our work includes:
– mapping and coordinating tourism stakeholders
– working with local authorities, tourism organisations, SMEs, local producers and experience providers
– measuring and analysing destination quality, visitor satisfaction and online reputation
– conducting individual audits and providing practical recommendations to tourism operators
– developing destination and sector-specific quality standards
– delivering workshops, training and mentoring programmes
– supporting the development and improvement of integrated local tourism experiences
– connecting accommodation, gastronomy, local products, attractions and other services
– monitoring results, benchmarking and evaluating the implementation of quality measures
– supporting the transfer and scaling-up of tourism solutions across destinations

Within the proposed Living Heritage Destination model, Feel IQM could contribute particularly to stakeholder engagement and community participation, quality standards for tourism services and experiences, capacity building for local operators, development and validation of thematic tourism products, visitor feedback and quality monitoring, and transfer of the model to other destinations.
