Fundação INATEL (Portugal) – Interested in joining a consortium as a Partner

Fundação INATEL is a Portuguese public-interest foundation established in 1935, with 90 years of experience in social tourism, culture, sports, leisure, social inclusion and territorial development. Its mission is strongly rooted in making tourism, cultural and leisure opportunities accessible to all, while contributing to the promotion and preservation of Portugal’s cultural identity and the valorisation of national tourism destinations.

Operating across mainland Portugal and the islands, Fundação INATEL has a strong nationwide presence through 26 local branches, 15 hotel units, sports facilities, Teatro da Trindade INATEL, a Training Academy and a Qualifica Centre. Its network reaches approximately 250,000 individual members and 3,500 collective members (Centres for Culture and Sports – CCDs), providing the Foundation with a significant capacity to engage citizens, local communities and organisations across different territories.

Fundação INATEL has a longstanding commitment to social, sustainable and local tourism. Its hotel network, distributed across Portugal and strongly connected to historical, environmental and local tourism, contributes to the vitality of territories and to more sustainable and cohesive development. The Foundation promotes cooperation with local stakeholders, particularly municipalities, business associations, local development organisations and community-based cultural and sports organisations.

What can Fundação INATEL bring to a consortium?

Fundação INATEL can contribute as a territorial implementation, pilot and community engagement partner, offering:

Real-life environments for pilot and demonstration activities, including its territorial and hotel network;
Experience in social, sustainable and local tourism;
Development and testing of approaches connecting tourism with local and territorial development;
Engagement of local communities and stakeholders, including municipalities, associations and local organisations;
Valorisation of local identity, popular culture and intangible cultural heritage as assets for sustainable tourism;
Promotion of more inclusive and accessible tourism experiences, reaching different age groups and communities;
Integration of culture, sports, leisure and active lifestyles into tourism-related initiatives;
Training, capacity-building and awareness-raising activities;
Promotion of intergenerational and intercultural participation;
Dissemination, transfer and replication of project results through its extensive nationwide network.

Fundação INATEL is particularly interested in projects exploring innovative and sustainable tourism models that generate benefits for local communities and territories, strengthen local identity and cultural heritage, promote social inclusion and contribute to more balanced and cohesive territorial development.

The Foundation is especially interested in initiatives where its hotel and territorial network can provide real-life settings for testing and demonstrating sustainable tourism approaches, while its extensive community network can support stakeholder engagement, dissemination and replication.

Dear Mr Gomes,

Thank you for presenting Fundação INATEL’s profile.

We would like to briefly introduce the Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje, a public cultural institution from Bosnia and Herzegovina that is internationally oriented and strategically committed to the contemporary valorisation of cultural heritage and its stronger integration into sustainable tourism and destination development.

The Museum is currently implementing two EU-funded projects in the field of cultural tourism, through which it is developing new visitor experiences, more accessible and inclusive cultural content, digital interpretation of heritage, and sustainable models for the management and valorisation of cultural and tourism sites.

Our interests within Interreg Euro-MED Call 7 are broad and include key contemporary tourism trends such as sustainable and regenerative tourism, cultural and creative tourism, digitalisation and smart interpretation of cultural heritage, visitor and tourism-flow management, experiential and thematic tourism products, cultural and gastronomic routes, rural and hinterland tourism, local community engagement, accessibility and inclusion, seasonality reduction, visitor dispersion towards lesser-known locations, as well as the use of new technologies and data in destination management.

We are particularly interested in projects that connect cultural heritage with innovation, local identity, creative industries, sustainable mobility, and the development of new tourism experiences that can be transferred and adapted across different Mediterranean destinations.

In this context, we believe there may be strong potential for cooperation between Fundação INATEL and the Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje.

We would be very pleased to explore possible forms of cooperation and to learn whether you are already in contact with a Lead Partner or an emerging consortium for Call 7.

Thank you for contacting us and for presenting the Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje.

Fundação INATEL has already joined a consortium preparing a proposal for the Interreg Euro-MED Call 7 – Transfer Projects. Therefore, at this stage, we are unable to pursue an additional partnership under this call.

However, we remain very interested in exploring future cooperation opportunities, given the strong connection between our areas of activity: social, senior, inclusive and sustainable tourism; culture; intangible cultural heritage; sport; leisure; training; and social inclusion.

Fundação INATEL is also an organisation accredited by UNESCO to provide advisory services for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. We therefore believe there is significant potential for cooperation in future calls.
