Anita PipićParticipantThe City of Slatina, a local public authority in continental Croatia, is interested in joining a consortium as a project partner under the Natural Heritage mission and Specific Objective 2.7.
Our interest focuses on the conservation, monitoring and long-term resilience of protected trees and historic parks, linking the protection of individual trees with wider biodiversity conservation.
Slatina is home to a remarkable giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), individually protected under Croatia’s park architecture protection category. The city also has a separately protected historic park behind the City Administration building, covering approximately 0.61 hectares and containing a diverse collection of mature trees.
We are particularly interested in connecting with municipalities, protected-area managers and research organisations working with old sequoias or other valuable mature trees, to identify shared challenges and jointly test conservation solutions.
The City has relevant EU project implementation experience. It led the EPIcentar Sequoia Slatina project in partnership with the county’s public institution responsible for nature protection and the Slatina Tourist Board. The project included interventions in the protected park, measures to safeguard and monitor the sequoia during works, and the development of nature interpretation and educational facilities.
We could contribute local knowledge, EU project implementation experience, stakeholder coordination and a potential setting for pilot activities. The specific activities, site arrangements and necessary authorisations would be developed jointly with the consortium and the competent institutions.
We welcome contact from experienced lead applicants and emerging consortia. Our concept remains open, and we are ready to shape our contribution around a shared conservation challenge and the project’s objectives.
