The Center of Integrated Geomorphology for the Mediterranean Area (CGIAM) is a public-law research institute based in Potenza, Basilicata (Italy).
We are currently seeking partners to collaborate with us in creating a proposal for the Interreg Euro-MED Programme’s 8th Call.

We would like to propose a project in the field of innovative strategies for addressing the threat of wildfires. The project would focus on prevention, preparedness and response to reduce damage and improve resilience, perfectly fitting in mission 2 (Protecting, Restoring and Valorising the Natural Environment and Heritage) of the programme.

The proposal is based on the experience of the projects implemented in recent years by CGIAM, financed by Interreg programmes and will allow testing of the main results of these projects, extending impact and ensuring the development of integrated strategies and actions against wildfires at the Mediterranean Basin Level.

The main fields of action will be the following:
– Test and adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies for the analysis of wildfire risk and planning of actions at territorial level;
– Transfer of best practices in the field of preventive actions against wildfires in forestry and agriculture;
– Dissemination of best practices in wildfire risk awareness and community involvement.

CGIAM has extensive experience in the Interreg programmes and in transnational institution-building projects, such as the Phare Twinning and EuropeAid programmes.

Our main strengths include:
– Scientific and technical expertise in territorial and environmental analysis, geomorphological risk assessment, and monitoring methodologies.
– Great capacity in results transfer and technological innovation, turning research outcomes into applicable tools and solutions.
– A wide portfolio of validated, transferable project outputs covering climate change adaptation, methodologies for analysis and planning of actions on wildfires prevention control and impact mitigation.
– A decades long experience in turning technical and scientific knowledge into public-facing content through exhibitions and citizen-oriented initiatives.
