    A2B – Academic entrepreneurship as a driver for innovation and sustainable development of SMEs
    Improving innovation capacities in our Mediterranean territories is a necessity to strengthen and consolidate a knowledge society. It will help us face future possible economic crisis. This project aims to contribute to the innovation and sustainable development of SMEs by proposing solutions based on academic entrepreneurship. The A2B intends to carry out an analysis of the needs and opportunities of sustainable development in the Mediterranean area, as well as to map the existing knowledge in 4 key areas: biopharmacy and biomedicine, food biotechnology, environment, and water management, based on the partner entities. A competition and ideas acceleration program will then be launched with a view to proposing solutions (products or services) to the identified problems that are sustainable not only at an environmental level, but also at an economic level. In this way, we hope to contribute to the sustainable development of SMEs and to enhance the knowledge generated in universities, bringing them closer to the business field.

    We are looking for SMEs and Universities/Research Centers in the agri-food and environment areas, or others that can serve as an interface to all 4 areas. Any partner in the area of entrepreneurship / business will be welcome!

    CBIOS, the Research Center for Biosciences & Health Technologies was created in 2011 as a R&D structure of COFAC / Universidade Lusófona to create and promote knowledge in the health sciences. As part of our vision, CBIOS develops Integrated Health Strategies aimed to support the progress of Lusophone societies.
    Being an university-based unit, CBIOS is highly committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. It is also privileged to operate within a broad-minded, multidisciplinary environment essential to foster innovation, promote advanced learning, and attract dynamic young researchers from different backgrounds and cultures.
    CBIOS currently includes 19 integrated members, 25 PhD students, 27 collaborators, and a wide collaborative network, operating in five research domains – Natural Bioactives, Development of Delivery Systems, Pharmacology and Molecular Mechanisms, Modeling Systems, and Nutrition and Health Promotion.

    – ‘Closing the gap between fork and farm for circular nutrient flows’ project aims at the implementation and exploration of innovative Nitrogen & Phosphorus recovery solutions for the utilization of human sanitary waste from urban settlements and its conversion into safe bio-based fertilisers for agricultural production (HORIZON-CL6-2022-ZEROPOLLUTION-01-02, Project number: 101081883, budget: 7.5 million).

    – FlexCHESS aims to revolutionize the existing paradigms of energy storage by developing a multi-level flexibility approach based on Virtual Energy Storage System (VESS) that can store surplus energy through hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) and modify their behaviour and architecture to support unpredictable growth and change of demand, climate and market (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-01, project number: 101096946, budget 3.6 Million)

    -FoodE ( KA220) will raise agri-food entrepreneurs’ and young farmers’ awareness of food loss and its impact on the environment through providing them with opportunities to engage in knowledge-exchanges with experts, create affiliations to improve their employability, training for becoming FoodE ambassadors and providing them with possibilities to communicate with old farmers and agri-food entrepreneurs that will help them design solutions, products and/or services for tackling the
    food loss issue.

    Dear Leandro,

    We are a SME devoted to development of diferent sensor sysytem for enviromental, food and medical application. .
    ARC Applied Research Center (Centro Ricerche Applicate) is an Italian tech company focused on sensing and biosensing research and industrial development. ARC designed and tested an air sampler that proved to enhance sensitivity of volatile explosives affinity sensors intended for civil security. The automatic air sampler can readily be applied to other sensing applications in which volatile target molecules are involved, and its size can be tailored to fit portable and handheld device.
