Kakanj is a municipality in the center of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kakanj is an industrial town and a pillar of the energy development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the prominent features of Kakanj is its coal mining industry. The city has a long tradition of coal production, which has been a fundamental part of its economy for decades. The local coal mines have played a vital role in powering the region’s industries and providing employment opportunities for many residents. We are recognizable by our forests, as 60% of our municipality is covered by forests. Kakanj Municipality is proud of its incentives for the establishment of private businesses, student scholarships, energy efficiency measures, and the development of agriculture and food production. Kakanj is a royal city, from which the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina begins. In our area, the oldest mosque and Franciscan monastery are located. The only ski resort in the Zenica Doboj canton is located in Kakanj. We emphasize mountain, religious, and rural tourism. Like many regions, Kakanj faces challenges such as economic fluctuations, infrastructure improvements, and the need for sustainable development. Efforts are continually being made by local authorities and residents to address these challenges and create a better future for the municipality. Overall, Kakanj Municipality stands as a blend of history, natural beauty, economic significance, and cultural diversity, making it a vital and vibrant part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
