The Municipality of Lykovrisi-Pefki has an area of 4,12 km2 with a total population of around 25,000 people. The municipality reflects an urban landscape dominated by apartment buildings and concrete, with limited greenery and open spaces are mainly concentrated in the northeastern part of Likovrisi, which is close to the Metamorphosis Municipality Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Athens-Lamia National Road. The municipality is surrounded by major highways, which has contributed to the degradation of air quality due to vehicle emissions. This, combined with the smog from increased use of fireplaces and the geomorphology of the area, which forms a basin with Mount Parnitha, has led to a total change in the climate of the area, with greatly increased humidity and an atmosphere that is often stifling in winter, with the neighboring Municipality’s Wastewater Treatment Plant further exacerbating the situation. Furthermore, the impending completion of “Kimi Avenue” traversing the municipality, is poised to exacerbate these challenges.
