The Laboratory of Environmental Biochemistry at Center of Sustainable Development is part of The Polytechnic of Međimurje in Čakovec. Main activities are SOIL CHEMISTRY, ENERGY CROPS, WASTE MANAGEMENT and ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.
The Polytechnic has departments that consider Sustainable Development (Sustainable Construction module and Environmental Engineering module), Computer Engineering and Management of tourism and sports.
The Laboratory of Environmental Biochemistry offers basic soil analysis for the purpose of monitoring the condition of agricultural land and testing soil fertility.
The laboratory is equipped with modern analytical equipment that allows working with different types of samples, and the soil is currently the primary focus of the laboratory. From microwave digestion ovens for sample preparation, various types of baths, centrifuges, to complex sophisticated analytical instruments such as the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer for quantification of heavy metals, TOC instrument for total carbon determination, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, HPLC and GC/MS.
We are interest in sustainable plants, like hemp and Miscanthus x giganteus used as energy crops.
Also we have strong desire to expand our analytics on organic pollutants such as pesticides and industrial chemicals and mechanisms to reduce their use in agriculture on bigger scale.
Polytechnic in Međimurje has experience with EU funding and now is looking for partners to collaborate with in the same or similar topics.
We are looking forward to further cooperation!
