The Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (IOR) is Croatian national scientific institution dedicated to marine research on the eastern Adriatic coast. The scientific activity of the Institute has been multidisciplinary, encompassing biological, chemical and physical oceanography as well as sedimentology, fishery and aquaculture. The general orientation of the Institute’s work is fundamental and applied scientific research. A significant part of this research aims at detecting complex oceanographic interactions that shape the Adriatic environment, since understanding the ecosystem’s functioning represents a necessary prerequisite to creating measures for ecosystem protection and its biological resources sustainable exploitation. In addition, the physical, chemical and biological long-term data series collected by the Institute represent a valuable basis for the implementation of number of European directives. Fisheries research encompasses systematic research of fish biology, fish community composition and structure, species distribution, population dynamics and stock assessment of commercially important fish species, catch structure, exploitation level, by-catch and discards composition, evaluation of selectivity properties and destructiveness of fishing gears, estimating potential impact of global climate change on fish biodiversity and other sea living resources in the Adriatic Sea, collection of new ichthyological data and finally preparing recommendations for conservation, sustainable use and management of living marine resources. Recent work are dedicated to conservation, restoration and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
Positioning of IOR in the region as a leader in fisheries and aquaculture research issues, enhancing of network of excellences, broadening of knowledge-based management towards authorities, stakeholders and public, contributing to the implementation of the EU strategies, policies, etc. IOR is leading partner and collaborative partner in a large number of international and national scientific and monitoring projects. In the last 5 years, the institute has been a partner in more than 30 Interreg projects (different regional levels of cooperation).
Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries has a long-standing tradition in research and has often participated in EU funded projects. It has a multiyear experience in managing and implementing cross-border and international projects as lead partner and partner. During the last five years it has taken part in more than 45 projects within several programmes: FP7 Marie Curie, EU-EASME, DG Environment, DG Mare, Interreg (14), Horizon 2020, etc. Many of them are related to coastal environment and renewable resources management, with the implementation of an ecosystem approach in the light of climate change, nature restoration, conservation, ocean literacy, education… Also, IOR is leading a number of national scientific and monitoring projects.

    POWER OF KNOWLEDGE
A quick look at the WoS Index, which measures production in leading international scientific journals, show IOR track record: https://www.webofscience.com/wos/woscc/summary/620b4e0d-a2e3-42f2-add4-aa59c8cdabd8-01ccd0d2d5/relevance/1

Our team has extensive experience in developing EU project applications and in the implementation and management of EU-funded projects. You can find us also on our official website: https://galijula.izor.hr/

If you are planning to apply under the upcoming Interreg MED call and are building a consortium, we would be very interested in joining. We believe IOR could bring relevant expertise and practical experience to the partnership, and we would be happy to discuss potential areas of cooperation.
