    Partner Search – Natural Environment and Heritage | Ulcinj Salina: Connecting Communities, Nature and Digital Environmental Education
    Proposed pilot: Digital Museum of Ulcinj Salina – Digital Innovation, Biodiversity Education and Community Engagement
    Organisation: Secondary Mixed School “Bratstvo Jedinstvo”, Ulcinj, Montenegro
    Mission: Protecting, Restoring and Valorising the Natural Environment and Heritage

    Relevant Specific Objectives:
    RSO2.7- Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution
    We are looking to join an existing project partnership currently developing a proposal under the Interreg Euro-MED Programme.
    Our school is interested in contributing a pilot activity focused on the development of a Digital Museum of Ulcinj Salina, connecting digital technologies, environmental education, biodiversity conservation and community engagement.
    Ulcinj Salina is an exceptional Mediterranean wetland ecosystem and an important natural heritage site. Our concept aims to make this ecosystem more accessible to students and the wider community through interactive digital tools, experiential learning and citizen engagement.
    Proposed pilot activities could include:
    • An interactive digital map of the Salina, its habitats and biodiversity;
    • Digital and audiovisual content on birds, migration routes and wetland ecosystems;
    • Interactive educational stations, including bird sound identification and learning activities on nests, eggs and life cycles;
    • Digital microscopes and basic research equipment for school-based biodiversity activities;
    • IoT sensors for educational monitoring of selected environmental parameters, such as water quality, temperature and salinity;
    • Digital cameras and binoculars for bird observation and documentation;
    • Immersive and virtual reality experiences presenting the Salina ecosystem;
    • Educational workshops and citizen science activities involving students, teachers and the local community.
    The pilot will engage students in hands-on fieldwork and environmental monitoring, helping them develop practical research skills, understand the importance of wetland ecosystems and contribute to raising awareness of biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of Mediterranean natural heritage.
    The pilot would be developed in cooperation with relevant environmental experts and organizations, including the Centre for Protection and Research of Birds (CZIP), subject to their involvement and availability, to ensure scientific accuracy and appropriate educational methodologies.
    Added value for the project partnership
    The Ulcinj pilot could complement existing project activities focused on green community spaces, nature-based solutions, sensory and heritage gardens, and environmental education. It would offer a transferable model demonstrating how advanced digital technologies and participatory learning can help communities understand, interpret and protect vulnerable Mediterranean ecosystems.
    The pilot could also strengthen the connection between schools, research and innovation actors, environmental organizations and local public institutions, while encouraging young people to engage actively in biodiversity protection and the sustainable use of natural resources.
    What our school can contribute
    • Direct involvement of students and teachers in pilot activities;
    • Organization of educational workshops, study visits and community events;
    • Testing of digital educational tools and learning materials;
    • Cooperation with local stakeholders, environmental organizations and public institutions;
    • Collection of feedback and assessment of educational impact;
    • Communication, dissemination and transfer of the model to other schools and communities.
    We are particularly interested in joining a project proposal already under development, where our school could contribute this pilot as a complementary activity within the wider project methodology and partnership.

    We welcome contact from lead partners and project developers seeking an engaged educational partner from Montenegro, with a concrete pilot idea linking digital innovation, biodiversity education and Mediterranean natural heritage. Our contact: projekti.bar@gmail.com
