Working title of the Project:
Integrated strategic planning and developing for coast and marine waters ecosystems protection and management – Natura Adriatica

Project summary:

• The goal of the project is to overcome limitations related to the distribution of knowledge and responsibility, that is, to
create lasting results for individual areas, but also for the region itself. The project will significantly improve the
management of biodiversity in the marine and coastal MED areas.
• As a continuation of the project financed by Interreg Italy-Croatia under the name CASCADE, the city of Nin would like to
develop a project which will develop a new integrated strategy and provide instruments and small infrastructure for the
protection of biodiversity and habitats, which includes the preservation of the coastal landscape.
• In 2017, the City of Nin created project documentation for the construction of a walkway and observation deck for bird
watching, as an ornithological study from 2015 determined that there were two ornithologically rich locations in the City of
Nin. The entire trail also serves as an area from which one can observe the flora and fauna of the Nin mud area. Parts of
the paths also allow visitors to safely pass through the protected area on their way to the beach, without harming it.
• The project will combine operational monitoring for forecasting, designing and intervention to increase coastal resilience and ecosystem quality. The expected results of the project contribute to the
achievement of the goals of our programs, such as supporting a more climate- neutral and resilient society “bringing nature back to our life”

I’m a research director of the National Council Research of Italy (CNR), with experience in Earth Observation and remote sensing technologies. CNR could provide extensive analyses on the state of Earth’s surface and its changes, and specifically for the monitoring by satellite of the state of conservation, re-habilitation of coastal regions with specific interests to problems related the soil erosion, coastal deterioration, using a refined set of environmental indicators based on Sentinel data characterizing the state of vulnerability/adaptability to climate-induced disasters (e.g., extreme weather events, drought, inundations, surface deformations).
