Tourism climate action plans in the Mediterranean: a vision for the future

In the framework of COP27, within the Mediterranean Pavilion in which the Interreg MED Programme participates as a partner, the Interreg MED Sustainable Tourism Community organises the event “Tourism climate action plans in the Mediterranean: a vision for the future”.

The event will take place on Decarbonisation Day to raise awareness about the potential of the tourism sector in supporting the Mediterranean region in mitigating, adapting and financing the multiple impact of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution and waste. The event will present the “Glasgow Declaration on climate action in Tourism” as a tool to commit a greater number to a concrete roadmap and by bringing the attention on the positive impacts that locally-led initiatives embedded in transnational cooperation frameworks have already had in decarbonizing the tourism sector and in developing nature-based tourism offer and will feature the participation of UNWTO to recall the main pillars of the declaration, beside regional and local authorities who will present locally-lead impactful initiatives, aligned with the Declaration’s principles, striving to decarbonize tourism sector and to develop nature-based tourism offer.
